The regional deputy and president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote, Astrid Perez, will insist before the Government of the Canary Islands that the implementation of the Integrated Vocational Training Center on the island "must be done with full guarantees for the entire educational community"

Pérez will ask the Executive about the formula that the Ministry of Education is using for the conversion of the IES Zonzamas into an Integrated center and which is opposed by the group of FP teachers. "The creation of the center is a demand that the island has been making for almost a decade, so it is incomprehensible that things are being done so badly, in a rather sloppy way and without counting on all the parties involved," denounces Pérez.

"The maxim that should prevail throughout this process is to guarantee educational quality and not put at risk all the benefits and services offered by this type of center." "The fact that Basic FP is going to coexist with the CIFP does not seem to be the best starting point for teachings that have a completely different student profile and with totally different needs," says the Lanzarote parliamentarian, echoing the complaints that have been raised by the FP teachers of Zonzamas.

"The coexistence of minors with adults is not possible"

"Basic FP, with underage students, is incompatible with an Integrated Center. The coexistence of minors with adults is not possible since it could hinder the custody of minors by those responsible for the center with the danger that this entails. A circumstance that does not occur in any of the integrated centers in the Canary Islands. Why does Lanzarote always have to be the exception for the negative?", emphasizes Astrid Pérez.

The popular accuse the Ministry of Education of acting "in an improvised way and without addressing the approaches of the educational community, and above all, of a teaching staff that has always been dedicated to maintaining quality and continuous improvement."

"When we have the opportunity to do things well, we see how once again the Ministry of Education resorts to improvisation to provide a solution that also does not satisfy any of the parties," adds Pérez, who warns that "the historical deficit of educational infrastructures on the island is now joined by a new experiment that will prevent the future Integrated Center from developing its full potential."

"All we are demanding is that Lanzarote have an Integrated Vocational Training Center comparable to those that exist in the rest of the islands, no more and no less, and it is impossible for the Center proposed by the Ministry of Education to meet the objectives and expectations set for this type of education," he emphasizes.
