The Popular Party of Lanzarote considers the exclusion of the Port of Arrecife from the actions planned by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for the next five years in the Canary Islands to be particularly serious. In this regard, the island secretary of the PP of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and vice-president of the Cabildo, María Tovar, regrets that Sánchez's government has relegated the island's port facilities from the 600 million euro investment announced by minister Óscar Puente during his recent visit to the archipelago.
Among the actions planned by Puertos del Estado are, among others, the breakwater of the commercial dock in the port of Puerto del Rosario; the completion of the Sphinx Breakwater in the port of Las Palmas; the reinforcement of the breakwater of the port of Los Cristianos in Tenerife, and the Ribera dock in the port of Granadilla.
For Tovar, with this decision, the State Government "truncates the port development process" contemplated in the Arrecife Port Infrastructure Master Plan of 2006, which includes this work, "key to guaranteeing year-round operability," such as the connection of the cruise pier with the south breakwater to allow larger vessels to dock or for two ships to operate at the same time. The popular leader recalls that this project, which remains pending and was valued at around 10 million euros at the time, "would complete the actions already carried out to improve the port's capacity and functionality, responding to the island's real needs, both in the transport of passengers and goods, and in the management of tourist cruises.""It is incomprehensible that a strategic infrastructure for the economic development of Lanzarote, for the entry and exit of people, goods, and services, such as the port - and the airport - is left out of the State's plans for the next five years," Tovar emphasizes.
