The island president and national secretary of Communication of the Popular Party, Astrid Pérez, led this weekend the campaign to collect signatures against the squatting that is being carried out throughout the country.
The initiative extended to the different municipalities and is being developed in parallel to the motions that are being presented in local institutions in order to urge the government to adopt measures to stop the occupations to guarantee the right to private property that assists homeowners.
The populars have thanked the support that citizens are giving to this campaign and that confirms the concern that also exists on the island in the face of this problem that in the last year has increased considerably in the archipelago to the point that the Canary Islands is already the third autonomous community in which the occupation of homes has grown the most.

The Popular Party mobilized the committees of the tourist areas of Yaiza, Tías and Teguise as well as in Arrecife and San Bartolomé, where tables were placed for citizens to materialize their signature. Support for the campaign can also be done through the platform change.org where the proposed measures are collected.
In this sense, it is proposed that squatters can be evicted in 13 hours, that squatting with violence be punished with prison sentences of 3 months to 1 year and that squatters not be allowed to register in illegally occupied homes. In addition, for the Populars it is essential that the communities of owners can take legal measures and that legal entities can also initiate eviction proceedings.
