The councilors of the Popular Party in the Yaiza City Council, Juan Monzón and Guayo Rodríguez, have accused the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, of "playing with the health of the users of the municipal gym" for "again leaving the facilities and machinery without cleaning and anti-Covid disinfection" of this space in the afternoons.
The popular representatives recall that last August they publicly denounced that the municipal government had eliminated cleaning in the gym. Furthermore, they affirm that in the plenary session of the Corporation, the councilor "acknowledged that he did not have personnel to carry out the Covid protocols", although the service was finally restored days later.
"Our surprise is that now, again, we are receiving several complaints from users who alert us that the councilor has returned to his old ways and that there is no cleaning and disinfection service in the afternoons," says the municipal spokesperson, Juan Monzón. "It seems extremely serious to us that they are also trying to play with the health of the users by maintaining an apparent normality that is not such, because although between classes the 15-minute stop is still maintained for the supposed disinfection, the cleaning is not being carried out," he denounces.
On the other hand, he adds that "if the cleaning and disinfection personnel are asked if the protocols are being carried out, they say they don't know anything, which suggests that they are warned not to speak or give information to the users."
"It seems that for the Councilor for Sports, the important thing is not the health of the users, but that no one finds out about his ineffectiveness," says Monzón. "It is completely inconceivable that in the midst of a wave of infections from the Omicron variant, with contagion levels in our municipality among the highest on the island and having just entered phase 3, the Yaiza government not only does not redouble its efforts to comply with the protocols, but seems to be playing with health and hiding it from users."
For these reasons, the councilors of the Popular Party demand that the mayor, Oscar Noda, take "urgent action on the matter and resume the Covid protocols in municipal facilities at all times", while reproving the behavior of his Councilor for Sports. "If not, we will be the ones to submit a motion of censure to the plenary for Councilor Ángel Lago," announces the spokesperson for the popular representatives.
