The Popular Party of Yaiza has publicly denounced the regrettable image that the area near the fire station in the town of Uga has presented for a few days, with completely overflowing containers and a large accumulation of garbage bags on the ground. "An image that is frequently repeated in different parts of the municipality due to the precariousness with which the waste collection service has been provided for years," they say from the party.
“It is incomprehensible that the government of Óscar Noda has not adopted immediate corrective measures, also taking into account that on these dates Uga celebrates the festival of San Isidro Labrador, and there is a greater influx of residents and visitors. It is sad that a town that is characterized by its scenic beauty and the care of its aesthetics has to endure this situation of abandonment,” said Juan Monzón, spokesperson for the Popular Party in the Yaiza City Council.
From the PP they insist that "it is not the first time that episodes of this type have occurred. On previous occasions, residents of different towns in the municipality have expressed their discomfort at the presence of overflowing containers, waste piled on the ground and persistent odors, all aggravated by the lack of maintenance and control." “In the end, it is the residents who pay for the inability that the government has shown to tender a service that is essential, is budgeted and, above all, should respond to current demand,” explains Monzón, who considers that the successive contracts that have been signed by emergency “are patches and are not adapted to the real needs of the municipality.”
“Yaiza cannot afford to project this image of abandonment. It is a matter of public health, respect for residents and coherence with the tourism model that is to be offered,” emphasizes the PP, which also proposes citizen awareness campaigns and an improvement in the planning of the service in times of high demand.
The Popular Party demands that the municipal government team take urgent action to remove the accumulated waste and proceed to clean up the areas most affected by this problem.
