The director of the Canary Islands Housing Institute, María del Pino de León, held a meeting with the spokespersons of the Platform for Decent Housing of Lanzarote. "The objective of this meeting was to listen carefully to the complicated reality presented to us by the Platform and to articulate immediate measures to try to expand resources in terms of housing, a line in which we are already working and which is contemplated in the future Housing Plan of the Canary Islands", declared De León after the meeting.

In the meeting, the director of the Canary Islands Housing Institute listened to the demands of the platform, especially those referring to the scarcity of public housing and the high rents of housing in the private rental market.

In this sense, one of the spokespersons, Elsa Betancor, described the situation on the island as "desperate", given that "we have a serious problem because there are no houses for rent or the rents are very high." For her part, Amira Embarek, another of the platform's spokespersons, highlighted the need for "social services to function in a more coordinated way and offer solutions to families facing eviction, as well as to implement a protocol of assistance for these families." The meeting was also attended by another of the spokespersons, Ángeles Guisado, as well as the deputy of the Canarian Coalition for Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín.

Promote the number of public park homes on the island

"The 'Canarias+ViviendasXFamilias' program already proposes a collaboration agreement for the establishment of a protocol with the town councils to address these situations", explained De León, who indicated that "one of the objectives of the Canarian Executive is to promote the number of public park homes on the island".

"To this end, the future Housing Plan of the Canary Islands incorporates a program in direct collaboration with the town councils for the free transfer of land, the drafting of projects and the execution of works. In addition, this program is joined by other specific programs for the acquisition and urbanization of land for the construction of protected housing, which contemplates the granting of subsidies for both the acquisition and the development of land for the construction of protected housing", detailed the director of the Canary Islands Housing Institute.
