The Platform against Noise in Arrecife has echoed a neighborhood complaint about the noise on the promenade of El Reducto beach. In a letter sent to La Voz. This citizen has denounced "the ordeal" he suffered last Friday, August 15, on the occasion of the San Ginés Festivities, in Arrecife. In this sense, he has expressed his "deep indignation and discomfort".
In a press release, he pointed out that from 8:30 in the morning until 12:00 a.m. and, once the sports tests were finished, "the loudspeakers installed in the area were emitting music continuously and at an unbearable volume, preventing the rest of those of us who live in the surroundings".
"This sonic abuse not only seriously affects our right to rest and tranquility, especially health, but also reflects a total lack of empathy" of this City Council towards the residents.
Thus, he has highlighted that despite assuring that these activities are intended to "revitalize the area", "the reality is very different":
In this way, he has highlighted that the El Reducto promenade "is becoming a space of constant noise, dirt and alcohol consumption in public, partly due to the bar/bar that has been installed where young people carry out sports tests". At the same time, he indicated that "the image that is projected is that of a hostile and unsafe place, not recommended for families or our children" and that, in addition, there are "repeated fights with knives in the area, events that seriously endanger citizen security and make people flee from the promenade instead of enjoying it".
This citizen, through the Platform against Noise, claims his "right to health". "Sport and drink are incompatible, in this case sport is combined with a chiringuito where alcoholic beverages are served to everyone who asks for it, including minors," he said.
In words addressed to the mayor of Arrecife, he highlighted that the residents deserve "respect and consideration". "You cannot turn a residential and family area into a permanent noise area under the pretext of revitalization. The reality is that they are generating problems of coexistence, insecurity and an evident deterioration of the quality of life".
To conclude, he has demanded that the City Council "adopt immediate measures to put an end to these abuses, strictly regulating the sound levels, the schedules and the type of activities that take place on the Paseo del Reducto. The residents are not willing to continue putting up with this situation".
