Ciudadanos councilor in Yaiza, Bruno Medina, has revealed that David Rodríguez no longer held organic positions in the party when last Friday he announced that he was leaving the formation "due to differences in criteria." "I am going to continue with the commitment I acquired until the last day of the legislature," Medina said, who is currently the only public official that Ciudadanos maintains in Lanzarote, until the councilor of San Bartolomé is replaced, Javier Lemes, who has also just resigned from his position.
"The truth is that due to bad luck we have lost two more colleagues and, well, there are still a few of us here trying to pull the cart and take this to the end, until its last days, but with enthusiasm and a desire to endure and try to re-establish it by all means," Medina said on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, after the resignations of David Rodríguez and Javier Lemes. However, with respect to the latter, Lemes himself assured that it was due to "work reasons" and that it had nothing to do "with the recent resignations or the decisions of the party in the most immediate present."
After the resignation of Lemes, it is still unknown who will replace him in the City Council. And the second member of the list, Nuria Lozano, has already announced that she will not enter. "Nuria would be very excited, but her situation does not allow it. She has told us that she would like to, but it is not possible," said the Ciudadanos councilor in Yaiza. Thus, he pointed out that they are now "in talks" with the third member of the list, Francisco Miguel Moral, who "is assessing it", assuring that if not, Erick Renan León would enter, "who is part of the coordination and is very active."
"Everything is closing, but there will be someone who takes the position and continues fighting for it for sure," Bruno Medina assured.
"I thought David would continue as a member"
Regarding David Rodríguez's departure from Ciudadanos, Medina has stated that he was "surprised" because "David had been working for the party for a long time." However, although Rodríguez stated in his farewell that he was resigning from all his organic and membership positions, the Ciudadanos councilor in Yaiza has stated that David Rodríguez was no longer the island coordinator of the party or the Secretary of Communication in the Canary Islands.
"Many months ago, almost at the beginning of the year or the end of the previous one, he stopped being the island coordinator, he was not re-elected," Bruno Medina revealed, stating that David Rodríguez had also had to "take a step aside" in terms of the autonomous committee "several days ago", ceasing to be Secretary of Communication. "Two colleagues entered, two others left, and in David's case it was his turn," he added, who nevertheless thought that Rodríguez "would continue as a member."
"He didn't want to continue and, well, we respect him very much, we thank him for the work he has done so far, my full support in everything he starts and I wish him the best, but I was surprised," said the Cs councilor in Yaiza, who is now part of the provincial committee of the party, as he has stated.
None of these facts had been disclosed by the party, without having been revealed until now. "This is one of the issues in which we may have made the most mistakes. In terms of communication, we have done terribly, and I don't say it because of the case of David Rodríguez, who has done the best he could and it is not something personal to him, but to the whole party. And these are the things that we have to start improving," said Bruno Medina.
A "necessary" party that "can inspire again"
And despite the crisis that the party is experiencing at the national level, Medina believes that Ciudadanos is "a necessary party that has its safe place, that inspired many people and that can inspire again." "And we are going to fight for it," he assured. "In principle, we are going to try to ensure the commitments we acquired and try to defend the trust that people gave us both in the Cabildo and in the town halls," added Medina, who has stated that the island coordination group has already been appointed, "which is working to put forward proposals and to continue defending the party at the island level."
"And then we will see how the party is at the national level when the time comes, if we arrive with strength or if the party unfortunately disintegrates. I hope not and I also say that, in case it joins another party, it would be a sure failure and, as for the colleagues who are here today, I don't know if we would go to another place," continued the Ciudadanos councilor in the Yaiza City Council.
In this sense, when asked if he would accept an integration of Ciudadanos into the PP, he said "not right now." "Right now I don't want to know anything about any other project. I am very focused on this one and trying to fight for it until the end. If I still feel like continuing in this, we will see what options and projects there may be, but right now there is no project similar to this one, although unfortunately it is not going as well as I would like," he pointed out.
