The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, announced this Thursday that Sunday, June 1, is the date set for the company Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales to take over the collection of solid urban waste in all the towns of the municipality. Once the relationship with Urbaser was terminated and the City Council confirmed the emergency hiring with Valoriza for a transition period of one year, at a rate of 1.7 million euros, while the Institution processes the much more ambitious tender that it intends to award.

After the meeting held this Thursday in Yaiza between representatives of the City Council, service workers and a delegation from the company Valoriza in the Canary Islands, Óscar Noda confirms that "six new trucks and more technical resources are arriving to optimize performance." The mayor maintains that "all parties have rights and obligations, so what we have asked is that we all be consistent with our responsibilities. The service that Urbaser has been providing is clearly deficient and the alternative of emergency contracting is the fastest and most appropriate to improve garbage collection."

Valoriza, which provides this same service in eight Canary Island municipalities, respects the contractual replacement of Urbaser personnel and all the rights of the collective agreement. The subrogation of 23 workers will be signed on May 28 and the staff will see their payroll improved. "From the City Council we have made every effort, and we refer to the facts, so that our neighbors, residents and businessmen have the service they deserve, for which they pay their taxes," adds the mayor.

For his part, the Councilor for Cleaning, Rubén Arca, explains that "we have agreed on the routes for a service from Monday to Sunday and also agreed on the replacement of two hundred containers. The company has been analyzing the current deficiencies that we have transferred to them and that they themselves have seen in the street to implement the actions that solve the problems." Valoriza will have its base in a warehouse in the industrial area of Playa Blanca.
