The deputy of the Nationalist Parliamentary Group, Cristina Calero, asked in the Plenary Session of Parliament about the actions being carried out regarding educational grants for students with specific needs (SNAE). Calero recalled that "educational grants have not been received for students with ADHD by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports."

Calero recalled the "importance of true inclusion, eliminating any barrier in the teaching-learning process of our students." In her opinion, the elimination of those barriers that "prevent learning that requires training, specialists, methodologies, but especially resources that cannot be limited to the classroom."

The nationalist deputy insisted that "the guarantee of these resources largely depends on educational grants, which provide the necessary financial support to families to eliminate these barriers to their children's learning." Calero explained that in the past 2023-2024 call for grants from the Ministry of Education, "it was established that students with specific educational support needs must prove a disability greater than 33%." In her opinion, "this is unthinkable because a part of the SNAE students does not necessarily have to have a disability nor does it have to be greater than 33%."

The Canary Coalition deputy stated in Parliament that "the consequence of this restriction is that thousands of families did not have any financial aid from the Ministry of Education for their children." In this sense, Cristina Calero recalled that "associations and families had to go to court and the Supreme Court gave them the reason, forcing the Ministry to include in their aid those who prove Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder."

Calero explained that the new 2024-2025 call, despite lowering the percentage of disability to 25%, "returns without any type of aid for thousands of families who live with ADHD". For this reason, the deputy of the Canarian Nationalist Group raised the need to "find solutions for those families who already bear an extra cost in their daily lives, who live with ADHD and who have been left unprotected by the educational aid of the Ministry of Education." In her opinion, "true inclusive education is the one that puts all the resources to eliminate barriers to learning," she concluded.

For his part, the Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez, assured that "the Ministry has put an extra item of 800,000 euros to complement and assist those boys and girls who are left out of the State grants." Likewise, Poli Suárez referred to the recent creation of the "direct care figure" from the Ministry for these families and the necessary revision, in collaboration with the families, of reviewing the current regulations "because it is obsolete."
