The beaches on the coast of Yaiza, in the south of the island of Lanzarote, will be regenerated in these days with about 2000 tons of sand

white to alleviate the damage caused by the Delta storm with the

strong winds, last November.

The General Directorate of Coasts of the Ministry of the Environment has

recently authorized this extraction at the request of the Yaiza City Council. The jable (white sand) will be extracted from the Muñique quarry, in the center of the island of Lanzarote.

The 2000 cubic meters of sand will be injected preferably into Playa

Flamingo, the most affected cove in the tourist and fishing area of Playa

Blanca. The works will be carried out in these days by the company

concessionaire of the services in Playa Flamingo, whose managers also

had requested the necessary authorizations from Costas for the transfer

and injection of sand.

It is expected that the works on this beach will be completed in the first days of March, whose users and hotel companies located in the area had requested the mediation of the City Council with other administrations to obtain the necessary permits.

Better image and quality

Technicians from Beaches and the Department of the Environment of the Yaiza City Council will also supervise the development of these actions that will contribute to Playa Flamingo and the other famous beaches of the Yaiza coast to exhibit their best image and quality before the next beach season coinciding with the Easter period.

On the other hand, the small cove that gives its name to Playa Blanca has been open for swimming since this week once the corresponding analyses of a small spill in a pumping station were received at the City Council

of the Inalsa network. As estimated in the City Council, the small spill

did not cause contamination in the waters.
