The Socialist Party has congratulated the mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, on his recent appointment as a member of the Executive Committee of the Canary Islands Federation of Municipalities (Fecam), chaired since this month by the also socialist and mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito.
"The representation on the Executive Committee of a mayor like Alexis Tejera is a gift for all the Canary Islands municipalities, because we are completely sure that this young socialist will boost and promote all those initiatives of the federation, which will most likely prioritize the social and climate emergency of the archipelago", declared the general secretary of the party in Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo.
On behalf of the entire party, Corujo has shown her satisfaction for the designation of the mayor of San Bartolomé as a member of the new executive and has expressed her desire "that other mayors of Lanzarote be part of the new work commissions, which will continue to be a model of dialogue between the town councils, the island councils and the Government of the Canary Islands".
"We know that the social and climate emergency needs concrete proposals from many actors, and we are sure that Fecam will be a relevant protagonist in the actions that we will have to take immediately because the countdown began some time ago, as the young people of the world and Lanzarote recently reminded us", she pointed out.
In Corujo's opinion, "it is important for Lanzarote that we have such a prominent representation in the Executive Committee as that of Alexis Tejera." "We are proud of this appointment", indicated the general secretary of the PSOE in Lanzarote, who took the opportunity to congratulate the first woman to preside over Fecam, the mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito.
Executive Committee
The PSOE explains that the Executive Committee is the collegiate body representing FECAM and that its members will perform their duties "free of charge" for four years. The Executive Committee will be made up of 19 people: a president, four vice-presidents and fourteen members. Of the nineteen positions in the new executive, eight are for socialist mayors.
The Executive Committee's powers include approving the regulations that develop the statutes, ruling on the annual budget and the annual settlement of accounts, authorizing expenses whose amount for each act exceeds 5% of the Federation Budget, acquiring and disposing of real estate, approving the federation inventory, approving the admission of new associates, controlling the activity and management of the president, designating the Federation's representatives in all those bodies in which it is represented and promoting all kinds of initiatives, studies, works and reports before the Public Administrations that it deems necessary for the development of the Federation.
