The magic of the Three Wise Men also flooded the municipality of Tías

The Island Board of Mayors, meeting this Thursday, agreed to suspend the Cavalcade of Kings of all the municipalities of the island due to Covid.

In this regard, it should be remembered that the Arrecife City Council already advanced and a week ago announced the cancellation of its traditional cavalcade. However, the deputy mayor and councilor for Culture, José Alfredo Mendoza, stated then that the Consistory was working "to find alternatives".

"We are working on another format, on other formulas where there is a presence of the Three Wise Men in Arrecife", he said this Friday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

In that sense, in the search for alternatives, it seems that other city councils will also work, according to municipal sources told La Voz.

Arrecife affirms that it will try to "save" the Carnival "in some way"

Regarding the Carnival, for now nothing has been agreed in this regard at the Island Board of Mayors and from the Arrecife City Council, its deputy mayor, affirms that they will try to "save it in some way".

"We have held meetings with certain Carnival groups in recent months and the news was not very encouraging, very hopeful, but we have always wanted to keep that window open for the celebrations", Alfredo Mendoza pointed out.

In this regard, the Councilor for Culture and Festivities has also explained that the last meeting was a month ago with the murgas and that there was talk of holding a contest but "with minimum issues" given the problems of the groups to meet and be able to rehearse. "Maybe taking advantage of or reusing costumes from other years or inventing costumes that would not involve an excessive cost in the preparation and eliminating the presentation prize", he detailed. "And then also, trying that instead of three themes it would go to two and that they would be recycled from other years or themes like the presentation hymns that everyone has", he added.

However, with respect to the bullring, Alfredo Mendoza has pointed out that, taking into account the current moment, "it is impossible to think of a bullring as we have it in mind". "It is true that we are talking in October and that the carnivals are at the beginning of February, but all the planning for the carnivals has to start now and, with the data we have today, it is impossible to plan an event of that type", he indicated.

"We are going to be prudent, we are going to wait a little to see how it develops", added the deputy mayor of Arrecife, who has stated that he has "notification from the mayor to start a meeting with the Carnival groups next week". "I think that next week we will be able to know perfectly where the carnivals are going to go", he concluded.
