The Island Hunting Council of Lanzarote met last Thursday, June 9, to outline issues of interest regarding hunting during the upcoming season. Specifically, the 2022 calendar proposal was approved, which must be finally endorsed by the Regional Hunting Council.

The Cabildo emphasizes that these agreements regarding the dates and characteristics of the campaign in its various forms were adopted unanimously, which is highlighted by Andrés Stinga, who also emphasizes "the collaborative nature and commitment to sustainability shown by the Lanzarote Hunters' Society."

This year, the rabbit hunting season with podenco dogs and ferrets will take place on the island from August 7 to October 30. In this modality, the maximum number of dogs for one license will be four; for two licenses, it will be six podencos; and for groups (maximum three licenses), a limit of eight dogs is established. Regarding the number of ferrets to be used in hunting, both one and two licenses are allowed a maximum of two ferrets; while groups will have a limit of three ferrets, as agreed by the Island Hunting Council.

Another modality allowed in Lanzarote is the hunting of Barbary partridge and wild pigeon with pointing dogs.

In this case, the season will open on September 18 and close on October 30, with Sundays being the hunting days. The number of dogs will be governed by the number of licenses, so it will be as follows: one license, four pointing dogs; and two licenses, six pointing dogs.

Rabbit hunting with falconry birds has the season from August 7 to October 30. And the hunting of Barbary partridge and wild pigeon with falconry birds will take place from September 18 to October 30.

Regarding the practice on the island of La Graciosa, a maximum of three dogs is authorized for one license; while with two licenses, it will be five podencos.

The opening days may be modified to unify them with the calendar of the other islands, as agreed in the Lanzarote Hunting Council.
