The Haría City Council made an institutional declaration last Friday to defend and conserve the Insular Hospital of Lanzarote, recalling that it is the only geriatric infrastructure in the Canary Islands.
All government groups that make up the council expressed themselves in favor of the continuity of the health and care activity, as well as the teaching capacity, qualified personnel, and hospitalization and palliative care services offered to the island's patients.
The mayor, Alfredo Villalba, emphasizes the need to work in a coordinated manner for the protection of a building that has a significant history and recognition in the scientific world, due to its connection with the island society.
The Insular Hospital of Lanzarote began to provide geriatric services starting in 1987, becoming today the only infrastructure in the archipelago specialized in this field and one of the 53 geriatric teaching units in Spain.
With these types of actions, the Haría City Council reaffirms its commitment to "the management and restoration of a primary facility for Lanzarote, providing a quality of life for the citizens".
