The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has convened his advisory council next Monday to learn about the impact that the war in Ukraine will have on the Archipelago. This was announced by the spokesman for the Canarian Executive, Julio Pérez, who indicated that for now it would be premature to make a forecast of the impact. "But there will be consequences," he added.
Pérez pointed out that, according to the information provided by the Minister of Tourism, Yaiza Castilla, there have been no cancellations or increases in tourist reservations, although connectivity has been affected, due to the cancellation of flights due to the conflict.
The meeting of the Advisory Council will address concerns about certain supplies, such as agricultural inputs, or the impact that this conflict may have on air or sea communications, although Julio Pérez has insisted that it is difficult to assess the consequences.
Cybersecurity measures in the Canarian administration
The government spokesman also referred to the cybersecurity measures that are being adopted in the public administration, guided by the National Cryptographic Center, and pointed out that recommendations have been launched to public employees on the use and shutdown of computers and telephone systems connected to the government's computer program.
In this regard, he said that one of the recommendations is to turn off the computer or other devices once you have stopped working. Pérez said that this recommendation made to public employees has generated a lot of demand for information.
In addition, the spokesman for the Government of the Canary Islands has shared the request of the European authorities to welcome Ukrainian citizens who leave their country and who are estimated to be close to one million people.
"All Europeans must feel in solidarity and provide the aid they ask us for," said Pérez, who insisted that it is the same thing that the Canary Islands has asked for with unaccompanied migrant children.
