The Councilor for Housing of the Yaiza City Council, Karina Centeno, describes the meeting with the director of the Canarian Housing Institute, Antonio Jesús Ortega, last Wednesday, August 13, to talk about the 126 social houses planned in Playa Blanca as "fruitful".

The meeting, which took place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, ended with a "double commitment" by the regional Executive. Firstly, to put out to tender the project for the first 126 homes before the end of 2023 and, secondly, the "completion of the work, if all goes well, in 2026".

The objective of the meeting was to know the status of the file to continue cooperating with the Canarian Housing Institute and ensure that Yaiza "has that much-needed public housing as soon as possible", explains the southern mayor. "We return very grateful for the attention received and satisfied with the result."

In addition, Centeno points out that "the Government of the Canary Islands has already "made public the deed of ownership of the land, so it can now begin to work on it, which confirms that we continue to move in the right direction." During the meeting, the southern official also inquired about the "possibility of acquiring new housing already built by the body dependent on the Government of the Canary Islands to seek more immediate solutions", with an affirmative response from its director "as long as they are registered and georeferenced".

It should be remembered in this sense that Yaiza is included in the Housing Plan of the Government of the Canary Islands, with a total of 226 social houses, of which "126 are planned in a first phase to be developed in this 42,000 square meter plot" transferred by the City Council in the Montaña Roja partial plan." Therefore, there would be "100 more homes approved but pending processing."

Óscar Noda also wishes to thank the "good disposition on the part of the highest official" of Housing in the Canary Islands. "Inter-administrative collaboration is essential to carry out projects of this magnitude," says the southern leader, who estimates that "the population growth that we are going to have in the municipality during the coming years with the opening of new hotel facilities also requires a larger residential plant and at a fair or accessible price for the workers of the municipality", and that there are this type of constructions "favor it", so these initiatives "will always have our support and maximum effort."
