The Canary Islands Government Council has given the green light to the project of a 4-star hotel in Playa Blanca, in the Montaña Roja Partial Plan. The file, processed by the Department of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, is approved prior to authorization by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and contemplates an establishment of 110 places, distributed in 55 lodging units.

From the regional Executive they explain that the Law of Renovation and Tourist Modernization of the Canary Islands has been applied, which provides that prior authorizations for tourist accommodation places in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife will only be granted "when they are intended for the new implementation of hotel and extra-hotel establishments, which meet building quality standards and service, and which guarantee the minimum environmental impact."

According to them, "this translates in terms of, at least, water saving, acoustic and light pollution and waste management, and meeting the conditions of density, equipment, infrastructure and services established by regulations to configure a model of excellence and eco-efficiency, as well as to obtain quality certifications and tourist environmental management and maximum energy efficiency."

In this case, they affirm that the project "guarantees the minimum environmental impact" in the management of water, lighting and waste. In this regard, they affirm that "the shape and geometric arrangement of the building responds to visual, orientation and design and construction standards aimed at the passive energy use."

"The horseshoe configuration protects the common outdoor areas of the hotel from the prevailing winds. Each of the lodging units is oriented according to the views of the sea, avoiding constructive interferences", they add.

In addition, they point out that "as a counterpart to the low buildability of the plot, there is a large free space destined for garden areas and common use for relaxation and enjoyment of the hotel complex, characterized by the extensive sheet of water."

Based on the Tourism Modernization Law, new hotels that want to be implemented must have the mandatory authorization of the Government of the Canary Islands, prior to the authorizations by the Island Councils, except for five-star establishments or higher categories.
