After many delays, there is a new date. The launch of the Integral Fleet Management Center of the Public Taxi Service on the island of Lanzarote, known as the Auriga System, "will be fully implemented from the month of March, when in the first fortnight the Cabildo awards the management of it definitively", according to the Minister of Transport, Ramón Bermúdez, has assured, after meeting with the Inspection Department of the Cabildo, the heads of the Local Police of the different municipalities and the Traffic detachment of the Civil Guard.
According to the counselor, "this coordination meeting is essential for the launch of the Auriga to meet the objectives and be applied in a timely manner as we had set".
Given the imminent entry into force of the Auriga, "it is essential to coordinate the State security forces and bodies, Civil Guard and the Local Police, who will be in charge of ensuring compliance and use of the system by the taxi sector". Bermúdez has highlighted the characteristics of this system, "which has involved a large investment to the Cabildo and whose sole objective is to offer a quality service to the residents and users of the taxi".
Correct deficiencies
The counselor recalled that the initiative of the single management center, promoted and financed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, "arises from the need to correct the existing deficiencies in the taxi service". The technologies used by most radio taxis "have become obsolete or simply do not exist in many areas of the island. This has led to ineffective management that causes delays, loss of services, shortage of taxis and, ultimately, poor service to local customers and tourists who demand a modern, fast and efficient taxi service".
According to Bermúdez, the Auriga technology offers a comprehensive solution to these problems and allows, "through its powerful and sophisticated software, to connect all the taxis and radio taxis of Lanzarote to the same call reception center that is responsible for automatically sending the service to the most suitable taxi thanks to the real-time location by GPS of the entire fleet".
