The Arrecife City Council has awarded the contract for the renovation of the Argana Baja Sociocultural Center to the company E.M.O. Obras, Construcciones, Contratos y Proyectos S.L.U. for an amount of 287,676 euros and with an execution period of 50 days from the signing of the staking act.

According to the Consistory, "the work will consist of adapting the facilities inside the establishment for the provision of the necessary equipment to promote the associative and participatory fabric of the community, which is specified in meeting spaces and places of artistic creation and production, or exhibitions, among other activities; as well as other dependencies for administrative use."

Once the works are completed, which will also improve accessibility to the center, they emphasize that "it will have an efficient electrical installation, fire protection measures, a drinking water supply that allows savings, wastewater and rainwater evacuation works, adequate general lighting of all rooms, emergency lighting, ventilation of the rooms and the installation of telecommunications that allow users to use computer equipment and access to public television, telephone and data networks."

"The sociocultural centers fulfill an important social function in our municipality, they are meeting places for residents and the cultural activity of the neighborhoods. Over time they have deteriorated and become obsolete without any work being done in decades. That is why we have awarded the contract for the renovation of the Argana Baja Center, improving accessibility, modernizing it and making it more comfortable and operational,” said the mayor, Ástrid Pérez.

"I hope that, in a short space of time, citizens can once again enjoy this newly renovated space," added the Councilor for Culture of Arrecife, Abigail González. The councilor has expressed her "satisfaction" for having been able to conclude the award of a work that has been processed since 2017. "It has been highly demanded by the residents of this neighborhood, who will soon be able to have an adequate space again for carrying out numerous leisure activities," she added.

However, she has also acknowledged that "there is still much to be done", so she has assured that they will continue "working day by day in each neighborhood of the city so that the centers can be available to residents and associations and that together we can ensure that these meeting spaces become a benchmark for the social and cultural life of our neighborhoods."
