The CACT management has also decided to close the only Centers that remained open since the indefinite strike of the workers began last Tuesday. Thus, the Cactus Garden, the Mirador del Río and the International Museum of Contemporary Art of the Castle of San José will not open their doors from this Thursday either. Regarding the Farmer's Monument, the CACT states that "it is open except for the restaurant", which means that in reality only the exterior can be visited.
Regarding Montañas del Fuego and the Cueva de Los Verdes, which were the first to be affected by the strike, passage will continue to be allowed only to groups of agencies and tour operators. Finally, the closure also remains in Jameos del Agua, which opened on the first day of the strike but closed on Wednesday.
The opening of several centers without charging admission on the first day of the strike, and in particular of Jameos, had aroused criticism from different opposition parties and also from the Works Committee, which even reported to the Civil Guard that this protected asset was being endangered, by allowing access to tourists "uncontrolled", in the absence of workers.
The following day, the Minister of Tourism, Echedey Eugenio, announced its closure at a press conference, stating that the reason was "image", because the strike had prevented the bathrooms from being cleaned. Now, from the CACT they point out that the reason for closing the rest "is the same" and point to "hygiene" and the "operability of the Center itself", "due to the lack of service".
