The plenary session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands unanimously approved this Wednesday a non-law proposal requesting that the Polytechnic Institute of Maritime Fishing Vocational Training located in Arrecife offer the degree in Nautical Studies and Maritime Transport.

A proposal defended by the deputy of the Nationalist group (CC), Oswaldo Betancort, who pointed out that it is an initiative of the University Foundation of Lanzarote, and recalled that fishing had "great importance on the island until the disappearance of fishing agreements with Morocco".

Through this non-law proposal, the Regional Parliament urges the Canarian Executive to initiate the necessary procedures so that the educational offer of the Polytechnic Institute of Maritime-Fishing Vocational Training of the Canary Islands includes the degree 'Degree in Nautical Studies and Maritime Transport'.

The deputy of the Nationalist group highlighted the importance of the institute to diversify the island's economy, and emphasized that this requires a transformation that requires highly trained people.
Oswaldo Betancort has accepted amendments from the Socialist groups, Agrupación Socialista Gomera and Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista, so that the Ministry of Universities is included, taking charge of the expenses.
