The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Public Works, has put out to tender the improvement works on the LZ-409 road that connects the towns of Mozaga with El Peñón for a total amount of 1,262,334.62 euros (IGIC included).

This was announced by the president of the Cabildo, Mª Dolores Corujo, who recalled that "this road has not been fully paved for more than 15 years, which presents a very worrying deterioration, not only due to the potholes in the pavement but also due to the lack of signage in most of this road."

Now, thanks to the investment that the Cabildo is going to make with its own funds (20%) and others from the Canary Islands Development Fund FDCAN (80%), a comprehensive improvement of the entire road, which measures around 3.5 kilometers, will be carried out. In addition to the improvement of the asphalt, which is in a critical state, safety barriers with motorcycle protection systems will also be placed and the corresponding traffic signs, both vertical and horizontal, will be installed along the entire road.

"Given the regrettable state of the well-known Peñón road", emphasizes Jacobo Medina, island councilor for Public Works, "from the Cabildo we set ourselves the fundamental objective of putting these necessary works out to tender and acting, as a priority, to restore safety on this road, without the need to modify the layout and without occupying new land beyond the road's own strip."

"The action on this road, whose execution period is estimated at three months, also includes the reinforcement of warning signs for curves, road crossings and a succession of dangerous curves," details the councilor. In addition, the speed limit on the entire road section will be set at 50 km/hour and the prohibition of heavy vehicle traffic will be maintained.

Companies interested in this public tender can obtain all the relevant documentation, as well as submit their offers before March 25, through the Cabildo de Lanzarote's Tender Portal
