The Cabildo has supported this Monday the initiative presented by the LEP - Sí Podemos group to regulate the "motorhome and other forms of responsible and sustainable camping" on the island and to end the legal vacuum in which this activity is currently found.

According to the formation, "the increase in this type of tourism and leisure has skyrocketed on the island, especially after the covid pandemic and the insecurity generated by closed spaces and mass accommodation. This circumstance has favored the proliferation of motorhomes, vans, homes and towed caravans, both from neighbors of the island and tourists.".

“It is important that, given this increase, Lanzarote has tools to regulate the activity and that adequate spaces are enabled to allow both the enjoyment of its users and respect for the natural environment and the rest of the residents”, said the purple spokesperson in the Cabildo, Myriam Barros.

The formation has proposed that the drafting of the regulatory regulations include, in addition to the seven municipalities of the island, the motorhome associations so that it includes their demands and concerns.

“We are sure that promoting this type of tourism will help revitalize local commerce, especially in food establishments in the smaller towns that mass tourism does not reach”, concluded Myriam Barros.
