The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has awarded the Comprehensive Care Service for unaccompanied foreign minors welcomed in the La Santa shelter to the Foundation for the study and promotion of social action. The contract has a value of 1,968,314.03 euros and a duration of one year from its signing, and may be extended for a maximum of two years.

"With this measure we facilitate the appropriate framework for the cognitive, affective and emotional growth of people in a situation of helplessness who, we cannot forget, are minors and must be treated and protected as such," explained the president, María Dolores Corujo. "In addition," she added, "this service will help them overcome the trauma caused by crossing the sea, losing, in some cases, their closest relatives."

For her part, the Minister of Social Welfare of the First Island Institution, Isabel Martín Tenorio, highlighted "the need to provide constructive and positive support to those who have risked their lives fleeing their homes in search of a life they dream of better."

In addition to the comprehensive care of minors, the service includes a literacy program of at least 10 hours per week; the implementation of an ecological garden and the acquisition of two computer equipment for use by minors, among others.
