María Dolores Corujo, reported last Thursday, May 4, the approval in the Governing Council of two new calls for subsidies that aim to "continue strengthening the fabric of the primary sector." Specifically, the island's leader details, the first of them "is aimed at granting public aid to subsidize the feeding of ovine-caprine breeding animals, a line of aid for which the Cabildo allocates 500,000 euros."

This is the third consecutive year that the Island Agricultural Service has launched this line of support for farmers to cover part of the annual feeding costs for these animals that are not productive, but that enhance the good health of the livestock industry on the Island”, explains the island's Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Andrés Stinga.

The other approval of the subsidy call that the Cabildo has made this week has "an economic amount of 200,000 euros", destined to "cover part of the investment expenses of professional fishing boats in Lanzarote and La Graciosa"; specifically, "those referring to the acquisition of engines, electronic devices or reforms in the boats themselves", he adds.

"The eligible expenses in this line of aid may reach up to 50% of the cost in some investments." "The execution of the projects in the fishing sector will be framed in the period from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024", he recalls.

On the other hand, in the same Governing Council, the "draft regulatory bases for the granting of subsidies" was approved, aimed at the agricultural and livestock sectors of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. "These are aids already included in the General Budget 2023 of the Institution and that could also be nourished by Treasury surpluses", they collect.

The lines of subsidies that will be established will be six, having a budget allocation this year in three of them: "projects to sand the island farms, those for the transformation of agricultural production including the wine sector, and the operating expenses of agricultural and livestock farms", they advance.
