The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, announced this Tuesday the suspension of all leisure, cultural, sports and senior activities organized by the first institution and by the municipalities of the island in view of the "worrying" Covid data on the island.
Corujo has appeared after a meeting of the Island Coordination Table, composed of the Cabildo and the seven town councils, in which it has also been agreed to close all socio-cultural centers and playgrounds, as well as the public gathering facilities of the first institution, which are those over which it has competences.
Specifically, the Cabildo's public facilities that will close "temporarily" are the Island Library, the Casa Amarilla, the Sports City and the Casa de los Arroyo. Similarly, the capacity in cemeteries will be limited and all visits to socio-health centers for the elderly will be suspended.
In the Drug Dependence Care Unit, "the crowding of users will be avoided, authorizing the modification of the guidelines for the administration of methadone", as stated by the president of the Cabildo. As for the residential unit for drug dependence care in Zonzamas, it has been agreed to limit visits to users to two people, "which must be carried out in open spaces of the premises".
In the Dr. Julio Santiago Psychosocial Rehabilitation Unit, visits will be set "at the discretion of the center's management".
Finally, visits to minors in the network of residential care centers for minors in situations of helplessness are limited, who may only be visited "by a maximum of two people and in open spaces of the respective center".
These measures are complementary to the restrictions established by the Government of the Canary Islands due to the level 2 health alert in which the island is located, and which are expected to increase in the coming days. In this regard, the president of the Cabildo herself has pointed out that she has already had "contacts" with the Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, and with the president of the regional Executive, Ángel Víctor Torres, "to assess the opportunity to increase the alert level and apply new restrictions to help us control the situation".
However, as Corujo has pointed out, who has appeared telematically at a press conference in which the seven mayors of the island were also connected, it will not be until Thursday when it will be known if Lanzarote moves to alert level 3, which is the day on which the Government of the Canary Islands updates the situation of each island.
