The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council have formalized this Tuesday the first collaboration agreement that is signed with the "Pastinaca" Underwater Activities Club for the conservation and enhancement of the natural wealth of the seabed of the bay of Arrecife. The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, explained that through this agreement collaborative actions will be carried out to continue with the eradication campaigns of the lime or diadema urchin in the Arrecife marina. In addition, conservation, cleaning and restoration actions can be carried out on its seabed.
Also present at the signing of the agreement were the mayor of Arrecife, Manuel Fajardo, the president of the Association, Rafael Mesa, the councilors Juan Antonio de la Hoz and Mónica Álvarez and the councilor of Arrecife Rafael Juan González.
Rafael Mesa has expressed his satisfaction for "this support that the two institutions offer us so that we can continue enjoying the veriles of the city." The president of Pastinaca also announced that during the first weekend of December one of the underwater cleanings will be carried out that the association has scheduled within the planned calendar of actions.
The monthly dives to expand the area free of the diadema urchin will be carried out from the source of the old commercial dock to Punta de la Lagarta. The agreement, which does not involve any financial consideration, also contemplates an annual underwater cleaning in the submerged Arrecife of the Bay and surroundings of the dock, as well as cleaning of the interior of Playa del Reducto.
For his part, San Ginés announced that with this agreement the collaboration of both institutions with Pastinaca for the organization of the 'Open Fotosub Lanzarote Mar de Lava' has also been formalized."
