The National Association of Nightclub Owners (ANELA) yesterday called for the legalization of prostitution, after the Parliament of the Canary Islands has admitted for processing a request to create a study commission on the sector.
The legalization of prostitution would regulate this activity and establish the rights and obligations of all people and organizations involved: worker, employer and Administration, ANELA says in a statement.
It would also allow the eradication of prostitution mafias, while respecting the social and labor rights of people working in the sector.
According to the nightclub owners, the debate on the regulation of prostitution should focus on "the usefulness of rules that should better protect the individual rights of both women who sell their bodies, for one reason or another, and employers who want to pay their taxes."
With its regulation proposal, ANELA "defends the sexual freedom of thousands of women in Spain, but also protects their job security", as is the case in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium or Austria, the association says.
Following the recent approval of homosexual marriage, ANELA believes that "it is a good time to boost the association's demands."
