The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Canary Islands Government, Sebastián Franquis, reported this Thursday to the Governing Council of the direct subsidy of 94,437 euros granted to the Cabildo of Lanzarote to carry out works to reduce noise produced by traffic on the LZ-3 road, or Arrecife ring road, in the surroundings of the capital's San Francisco Javier neighborhood.
This subsidy, granted "for reasons of social or economic interest", was included in the batch of 3.1 million euros in aid granted last December by the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing to the Lanzarote Cabildo to carry out improvement works on several roads of general interest on the island, explained Minister Franquis. This report is part of the obligation of the Budget Law by which the ministries must notify the Governing Council quarterly of all aid granted directly as it is less than 150,000 euros.
"The San Francisco de Javier neighborhood is located on the left bank of the Arrecife Ring Road, so this proximity to the road means that noise levels in the area are higher than certain limit values established by the Noise Law, with complaints from residents about noise pollution", the regional Executive points out in a statement, in which it explains that "this is the reason why it subsidizes the placement of acoustic screens that complement the existing ones".
The works planned and financed by the Ministry consist of the installation of acoustic screens on the edges of the public domain strip of the road to reduce noise levels. For this, the excavation, formwork and reinforcement of the foundation will be carried out to finally place the acoustic screens of reflective methacrylate panel.
This action in San Francisco Javier is part of the Strategic Plan of Subsidies of the General Directorate of Infrastructure, which in the case of Lanzarote is intended to promote improvement works on the roads of this island. For this reason, the Governing Council approved in December the granting of four subsidies totaling 3,151,782 euros to the Cabildo to execute several road works in Lanzarote.
The other works that were subsidized with this item, and that will be executed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, are the security measures for adaptation of bike lanes, environmental improvements and urban furniture in the urban crossing of the LZ-1 as it passes through Tahíche (with an allocation of 1,197,299 euros); the works of beautification of the accesses to the César Manrique airport (with 770,000 euros); the work for the adaptation of the containment systems in the LZ-2 between Arrecife and Playa Blanca (974,483 euros); and the improvements of the San Bartolomé link in the LZ-3 (210,000 euros).
