The Arrecife government group has given the green light this Thursday to the construction of the Garavilla shopping center and several residential buildings in the capital. Specifically, according to the City Council, the Governing Board has ratified, in its meeting this Friday, approving the granting of "eight urban licenses that had been waiting in the Municipal Technical Office for an average of 12 months."
In the case of the shopping center, according to reports, the request dates back to June 2017 and "has the mandatory and binding Specific Commercial License granted by the Government of the Canary Islands." The center will consist of three floors plus a basement, 72 commercial premises, nine warehouses, two kiosks and 952 underground parking spaces.
Likewise, the government group has authorized the granting of seven other urban licenses for the construction of several residential buildings in different areas of Arrecife, including San Francisco Javier, La Vega and even Canalejas Street.
A private investment "close to 30 million"
At the end of the meeting, the mayoress and head of the Urban Planning Area, Ástrid Pérez, highlighted that with the licenses approved today "private investment is boosted with an investment close to 30 million euros, favoring new employment and the local economy."
For the mayoress, "boosting the economy by accelerating the granting of licenses is making the progress of Arrecife possible." "On average, these licenses had been in the Technical Office for between 12 and 28 months," the mayoress pointed out.
According to the Arrecife City Council, the granting of licenses, in all cases, has had "the mandatory and binding favorable technical or sectorial reports," highlighting among them the one from the State Air Safety Agency, "as Arrecife is located in the aeronautical easement area due to the proximity of the César Manrique Lanzarote airport."
Regarding the calculation of private investment, the Consistory points out that "it is quantified in the execution projects, and in the estimates made by the developers and architects on the estimated costs in the execution of these works." However, it is pointed out that "presumably, the investment will be much higher in the case of the shopping center, where the investments that will be made by the owners of the commercial premises and activities that are installed in it must be added in the coming months."
