The Arrecife City Council has offered "for the second time" to all its staff the possibility of taking a test to detect the possible presence of Covid.

The council has made this announcement after Lanzarote en Pie sent a statement requesting a "massive screening" of the City Council staff, where it states that there are up to 10 infected workers. However, the institution assures that the Councilor for Human Resources, María Jesús Tovar, had already ordered the department this Wednesday to arbitrate the system so that workers can voluntarily take the Covid test.

In fact, the City Council affirms that it has contracted since July 15, 2020 the services of a specialized laboratory so that municipal workers can have, within the means of prevention of occupational hazards, the voluntary option of accessing the tests. This contract, still in force, made it possible for "in the summer of last year the City Council staff could access, voluntarily, to know the existence or not of the coronavirus in their bodies", according to the City Council.

"We are not aware of any outbreak"

Regarding the number of infected workers, the City Council does not confirm if there are ten, but insists that "it is not aware of any outbreak in municipal facilities or services."

In this sense, the mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, specifies that "it is up to Public Health to determine the existence of outbreaks" and, at least until noon this Thursday, the Ministry of Health did not confirm to La Voz that there was any in the institution.

In addition, the City Council points out that, "as has transpired, the infections of these workers may have been in the family or social environment."

Finally, the mayor remarks that her government group "will always ensure the health of workers and all citizens."
