The 41 people affected in Lanzarote by the suspension of the Early Childhood Education exams denounce feeling in a legal limbo

So far, the teachers have started the school year in their respective destinations but are still waiting for a resolution from the Ministry of Education to clarify the situation in which they find themselves, because they say that they feel in a "legal limbo" given that they do not know if they will be able to continue with their newly acquired jobs. "Nobody from the Ministry of Education tells us anything," said Noelia Bueno, one of those affected who was running for the first time this year, indignantly.

The number of people affected by this situation amounts to 275 candidates with a place throughout the Canary Islands, 41 in Lanzarote. Therefore, since the Ministry of Education suspended the entrance examinations a few days before the start of the school year, those who passed have organized themselves and formed the "Association 275 approved with a place in the competitive examination" to protest and demand what they have considered a "totally arbitrary decision" by the Administration.

The demand of the association is "that the 275 approved with a place in the qualifications and destinations be respected", said Huerta, while suggesting that possible anomalies be corrected individually in the event that they can be demonstrated.

According to Fermín Huerta, "we are trainee civil servants by right" and they consider that nobody has given them anything because they claim that they complied with all the requirements of the opposition. "We have studied a lot, carried out work and several tests, both written and oral, to get our place," said Huerta on behalf of the other affected people.

The greatest indignation among teachers comes from the fact that it is the Government of the Canary Islands that suspends the entrance examinations alleging alleged "anomalies" in the application of the evaluation criteria of the 34 courts, something that the association considers "surprising" since these courts depend on the Administration itself.

Next steps

To communicate "directly" their problem to the public, on Saturday, September 29, the members of the Association will gather in Calle Real in Arrecife, where they will distribute leaflets to inform citizens of their situation.
