The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has put out to tender, with a budget of 150,000 euros, the drafting of the Third Plan for Modernization, Improvement, and Increase of Competitiveness of Costa Teguise, the instrument that will allow the updating of the planning of one of the main tourist centers of the island.
The tender continues the procedure initiated by the island Corporation after completing the prior administrative processing and formalizing the management assignment with the Government of the Canary Islands. The Cabildo will assume the technical direction of the process, while the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands will continue with the processing and final approval of the document.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, explains that "the tender opens the phase to select the technical team that will be responsible for drafting the document and carrying out the necessary studies to define the planning of Costa Teguise for the coming years".
Betancort points out that "we are talking about a center that has evolved considerably and needs to have updated planning, which analyzes its current situation and determines the actions that can be developed in terms of urban planning, tourism, mobility, services, and infrastructure".
The Cabildo will assume the technical direction of the planning process, while the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands will subsequently continue with the processing and final approval of the document, in accordance with the management assignment formalized between both administrations.
A technical document to update Costa Teguise
The Minister of Territorial Planning and Territorial Policy, Jesús Machín, details that "the contract includes the preparation of the Plan and the necessary technical, legal, economic, and environmental studies, in addition to technical assistance during its administrative processing".
Machín adds that "the objective of this phase is to obtain a precise diagnosis of Costa Teguise and to have technically viable proposals to order its evolution, addressing issues such as public spaces, mobility, infrastructure and equipment, or tourist activity".
The tender documents precisely contemplate the complete preparation of the plans, with the corresponding technical, legal, economic, and environmental studies and assistance during their processing.
The future Modernization Plan will include, among its areas of action, the updating of the tourist resort's planning, the renovation of accommodation establishments and complementary offerings, the improvement of public spaces, infrastructure and equipment, and sustainable mobility.
