Somos has issued a statement announcing that it will take a proposal to the City Councils of San Bartolomé and Teguise to exempt owners of Assets declared of Cultural Interest (BIC's) and properties with historical heritage features contained in the municipal catalog from the payment of IBI and the tax on the execution of works. "In this way, the amount destined to pay municipal taxes must be used to make improvements to the homes to guarantee their good condition," they added.
"The Canarian historical heritage, in addition to being the bearer of our architectural, historical and cultural values, is the depositary and support of the identity of the Canarian people and offers us the keys to understanding the path that led us to our current reality. Some of the properties cataloged as BIC, as well as others that are not inventoried but do contain the values of the historical heritage of the Canary Islands, are not in a good state of conservation and are sometimes not occupied, so their condition worsens over time, with the consequent risk of losing this wealth," they explained from the formation.
In this sense, "and with the conviction that it is precisely the use that grants the greatest degree of protection," Somos will also propose that companies that decide to install themselves in properties with this cataloging be exempt from the tax on economic activities."
They will also request "that an item be included in the next municipal budgets aimed at the rehabilitation and restoration of protected buildings or buildings worthy of protection, especially in relation to their facade, when the economic conditions of their owners prevent them from facing such actions."
"The proposal was already rejected in Arrecife"
On the other hand, Somos "regrets" in a press release that "the proposal was already rejected by the government group in Arrecife with the votes in favor of the entire opposition en bloc, since, according to the formation, Arrecife is one of the municipalities on the island that most need these measures."
"The historical buildings of the city of Arrecife are in a deplorable state, a consequence of the years of disastrous management of the city's heritage, and also of the neglect and apathy in which the government group is installed. The rejection of a motion that is intended to stop being a city plagued with fences and buildings falling to pieces is the best example of the inaction of the PSOE-CC-PIL tripartite," they concluded.
