The San Bartolomé City Council has proceeded to restrict access to the municipal warehouse area, after detecting detachments in the roof of the building caused by the strong gusts of wind and adverse weather conditions recorded during the night of this Wednesday.
From the first hour of the morning, the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, and the Councilor for Works and Services, Raúl de León, are on site supervising the containment and securing of the area together with members of the Fire Department of the Security and Emergency Consortium.
“Our absolute priority is to guarantee the safety of residents, municipal workers who carry out daily activities in the warehouse, pedestrians and vehicles that travel near this facility, and that is why we have activated all the necessary resources to act as quickly as possible”, declared Mayor Isidro Pérez. “I want to thank the firefighters for their agility and professionalism, as well as the collaboration of the Security and Emergency Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Francisco Aparicio, who has not hesitated to make himself available to the municipality from the first moment”, he added.
For his part, the Councilor for Works and Services, Raúl de León, reported that there is already a intervention project planned for the structure, so “the integral change of the roof of the warehouse was already prepared and, after this incident, we are working to activate its execution urgently with the aim of undertaking the repair as soon as possible”.
The City Council calls on citizens to respect the established security perimeter and avoid access to the area until further notice, while technical evaluation and repair work continues.
