The government group of San Bartolomé will take to the next Plenary a modification of the Regulatory Bases of the Transport and Accommodation Grants for Students of the municipality, which will allow students to benefit from the two lines of aid if they meet the requirements, thus increasing to 800 euros the amount they can receive.
The City Council recalls that since the 2019-2020 academic year, the grants for university students' accommodation were increased to 500 euros and reiterate that "they will continue to increase gradually". "In this time of crisis, this aid is even more necessary to contribute from this City Council to cover the expenses incurred by studying outside the island," says the mayor, Alexis Tejera. "Supporting our young people and students has always been a priority in municipal management, and we will meet the final objective of setting the aid to students of the municipality at 1,000 euros," he insisted.

The bases that will be taken to the next Plenary will be applied for this 2020-2021 academic year, "highlighting the compatibility between the two lines of aid", that is, transport and accommodation. Once the Bases are published, the call for them will be ordered.
The Councilor for Education, Alma María González, recalls that San Bartolomé entered 116,120 euros in transport and accommodation aid in the previous year "to help reduce the expenses of 315 students in the municipality." In total, 161 young people benefited from transport aid for students who are studying official studies within the island but in another municipality, with a single amount of up to 120 euros, and 300 euros for those who are studying official studies outside of Lanzarote. In addition, 154 young people who are studying official studies outside the island received 500 euros for accommodation aid.
