The mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, has announced that the Family Respite Center is "getting closer every day." The City Council has already awarded the drafting of the project, which will be carried out by UTE Servicios Técnicos San Bartolomé.

“We have not stopped trying to carry out this project because it is a great management commitment to our dependent elders and their families. There have been constant meetings with the multidisciplinary technical, health and legal team behind it, currently having a preliminary draft and defining the execution project,” says Tejera.

At this time, according to the mayor, they are in the process of holding the last meetings to specify the design and distribution, so that the drafting team is clear about the objectives to be met.

“The line of work is focused on providing well-being to our elders, which also means generating opportunities for the youth of the municipality, since an important part of the investment we make in protecting those who need it most will return in the form of new job opportunities,” says the mayor.

Three major lines involve the actions to be carried out, ranging from “knowing all the situations to offer solutions from different areas including the Municipal Centers for the Elderly, the development of spaces in which dependents and their families find support for a few hours a day, with the Family Respite Center, and it is our desire to provide the municipality with socio-health places that this island lacks, through a Residential Area for the Elderly, in which a team of professionals is already working.”

Against unwanted loneliness

The mayor also recalls that this action is included within the Intervention Project with elders against unwanted loneliness. "We are moved by responsibility and we know that from the Public Administration we are obliged to give back to our elders what they have given us throughout their lives. We work firmly for people in isolation or in a situation of unwanted loneliness, and we will identify and channel each case, attending to each elder in a personalized way, to improve all situations that lead to fragility and social isolation," he said.

In this regard, it is recalled that a personalized attention telephone number is available through active listening, with psychological support, guidance and security "By calling 696 159 450 you will always find an answer," concludes Alexis Tejera.
