The San Bartolomé City Council and the 'Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Patients and Other Dementias of Lanzarote' (AFA), have formalized this Wednesday the signing of the contract for the management of the 'Elisa Corujo' Family Respite Center. A project that will become a reality on March 1st, with the start of its activity.

Cataloged as a center for social health services and family support, the center becomes a benchmark in the Canary Islands in the provision of this type of service financed with its own funds, with the San Bartolomé City Council being a pioneering administration in Lanzarote in the use of social agreement as a tool for the management of the resource.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, has pointed out that "the work carried out over the years, which Alexis Tejera started, will allow at least 30 families in the municipality to benefit from this service for which the city council maintains its firm commitment to the well-being and quality of life of citizens."

For her part, the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Medina, has stated that with this signature "the last step before the opening of the Center is completed, which will guarantee comprehensive care for users and which will respond to the issue of reconciliation of family, work and private life of caregivers".

AFA is a leading association in the care and attention of families and patients with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia. Its objective is to "favor the quality of life" from an interdisciplinary perspective, with a participatory methodology and a biopsychosocial approach to care focused on the person, with 29 years of experience in the sector.

The center's objective is to "improve the level of individual autonomy of users, facilitating family respite and their permanence in the usual living environment", offering advice, prevention, rehabilitation, guidance, habilitation or care services that will also have a maintenance service.

Among the tasks and services to be performed by AFA is the assessment of the social circumstances of the users, the promotion of their integration and participation in the life of the center and in the environment in which it is located, the sociocultural animation and relations with families.

The opening hours of the facilities will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with the center remaining closed on Saturdays, Sundays and national and local holidays.

Access requests can be made through the electronic headquarters of the City Council, in the General Registry of the City Council and in the Registries of the municipal offices. These requests will be available throughout the year for people interested in requesting one of the 30 simultaneous places available at the Center.
