The San Bartolomé City Council has intensified during recent months the surveillance efforts to combat illegal waste dumping in the municipality, an action that has allowed the detection and sanctioning of different infractions mainly related to the abandonment of household goods, waste, and construction debris on public roads or in unauthorized locations.
These actions have allowed opening sanctioning files against people who have violated the municipal ordinance by throwing waste in public spaces, a practice that harms the cleanliness of the municipality and deteriorates its environment.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, emphasizes that “keeping our municipality clean is a priority for the City Council but also a collective responsibility. San Bartolomé is a place that residents care for daily and we cannot allow uncivil behavior to deteriorate our public spaces or our landscape”. “Cleanliness and respect for the municipality are not negotiable f”.
In total, 16 people have been sanctioned throughout 2026, with fines ranging between 54 and 1,200 euros, depending on the seriousness of the infraction. Most cases correspond to the dumping of household goods and waste, although accumulations of debris from public works have also been detected.
Additionally, among other actions, a sanction has been processed for mineral oil spills on public roads, which required cleaning tasks with absorbent material to prevent damage to the environment and ensure safety.
From the City Council it is also pointed out that several of the sanctioned people do not reside in the municipality, which evidences the need to maintain constant vigilance to prevent this type of behavior.
The mayor of San Bartolomé thanks the work of the staff of the Environment and Public Services area, as well as the work carried out by the Local Police and its officers, whose control tasks have been key to detecting these infractions and processing the corresponding sanctioning files.
The San Bartolomé City Council also reminds that the municipality has a free door-to-door bulky waste collection service, aimed at facilitating citizens the correct management of this type of waste. This service can be requested by calling the free phone number 928 819 473.
For the rest of materials, such as rubble or other construction waste, these must be deposited in the different Clean Points enabled in Lanzarote, thus avoiding uncontrolled dumping and contributing to the protection of the environment.
