The Socialist Party (PSOE) announces via press release that it will question the Teguise government, formed by Coalición Canaria (CC), Partido Popular (PP), and the former VOX councilor, regarding the return of €710,930 from the 2021 Municipal Cooperation Plan subsidy that was not executed despite having had three years to do so.
This is stipulated in a mayoral decree of December 10, 2025, to which the socialist group has had access: "Reimburse the 710,930.04 euros as the amount of the unexecuted subsidy for the Project *Municipal Cooperation Plan 2021 Teguise*, to avoid further interest payments." Under this decree, the return of these 710,930 euros is ordered, from a subsidy totaling 1,338,353 euros granted to Teguise by the Cabildo within the 2021 municipal cooperation plan aimed at financing works in each of the island's seven municipalities.
“It is a shame that Teguise has let slip away these 710,930 euros and that the subsidy was not fully invested in improving the quality of life of the citizens, even more so when they had three years from the end of 2021 to execute all of these funds,” stated Marcos Bergaz, municipal spokesperson.
"We expect," the socialist spokesperson continued, "a convincing explanation from the government because beyond responsibilities, they must take note so that this does not happen again, as Teguise and La Graciosa are not for losing economic resources from other Administrations but for executing every last euro in investments that improve the municipality."
To conclude, the socialist leader confirmed that "in the next plenary session, we will ask the government for explanations on this matter, as we have previously done regarding the loss of 150,000 euros from a subsidy intended for the expansion of the Costa Teguise tourist information office; or more than 277,000 euros for the improvement of the Sunday 'flea market' in La Villa," Marcos Bergaz concluded.
