PIL accuses Betancort of "lack of democracy" after allegations from the Youth of his own party

The PIL Committee of Teguise believes that the allegations of the Nationalist Youth of the Canarian Coalition to the "most commented article" of the Security and Coexistence Ordinance of Teguise "uncover once again the lack of democracy" of the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort. In a statement, the committee affirms that the discrepancies of the young people "reveal" that Betancort "not only did not count on the councilors of the opposition, nor with the people of Teguise, but he did not even do it with his own training partners".

The party considers the ordinance "unnecessary" and even invites other members of CC who disagree to request its withdrawal. The insularist formation emphasizes that the young people, "among whom are several members of Teguise", explain in their press release that "they have had to call the councilors of this municipality now to explain the controversial ordinance".

This, in the opinion of the PIL committee, "reveals the serious situation facing the Teguise City Council and its uncertain future." The party paraphrases a part of that statement from the young nationalists, in which they claim to be part of a "progressive party" and that they do not want "the rights of citizens to be affected." With this, defends the PIL committee, "it is recognized not only by the councilors of the opposition, but by the CC itself that the fundamental rights of the citizens of Teguise and its visitors are being violated, causing conflicts that until now did not exist".

An "unnecessary" regulation

"From the local committee of the PIL of Teguise we already warned in its day of the unnecessary nature of this regulation and of the controversy that the approval of the same entails", they point out. They add, in addition, that in the annual report of the Local Police of Teguise requested by its councilors, the "lack of actions related to the prohibitions that they intend to approve in the controversial ordinance" is appreciated.

"We reiterate that the mere presentation of this ordinance is a tremendous lack of respect to a tremendously civic municipality such as Teguise and to each and every one of its inhabitants".

The local committee of the PIL of Teguise concludes its statement by encouraging "all those members of CC who do not agree with this ordinance to ask through the resources they have available to proceed with the withdrawal and start a new process of elaboration through the effective citizen participation and turn Teguise into news for being a supportive and tolerant town".
