The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced this Monday nine measures against Israel in response to the "genocide" that the Netanyahu government is carrying out in Gaza. Among the proposed measures, which will be applied immediately, he announced a decree that endorses the arms embargo, prohibits the entry into Spain of those involved in these actions, and more humanitarian aid.
Sánchez made this announcement in an appearance at the Moncloa Palace to report on the new initiatives that the Executive will adopt towards Israel and which he considered "a further step" in the pressure on this country.

Arms Embargo on Israel: Sánchez's First Measure
The first of these measures will be the urgent approval of a royal decree law that legally consolidates the arms embargo on Israel, which, according to the socialist, has been applied de facto since October 2023.
This royal decree will establish the legal and permanent prohibition of buying and selling weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to Israel.
Entry Bans for Genocidal Individuals
Added to this is the prohibition of access to Spanish territory for all those who directly participate in the "genocide," the violation of human rights, and war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
In addition, Spain will deny entry to Spanish airspace to all state aircraft that transport defense material destined for Israel, and transit through Spanish ports will be prohibited to all ships that transport fuels destined for the Israeli armed forces.
Prohibition of Product Imports
The import of products from illegal settlements in Gaza in the West Bank will also be prohibited in order to combat these occupations, stop the forced displacement of the Palestinian population, and keep the two-state solution alive.
With the same objective, consular services provided to Spanish citizens residing in illegal Israeli settlements will be limited to the minimum legally required assistance.
Support for the Palestinian Authority
Similarly, support for the Palestinian Authority will be reinforced through an increase in personnel in the border assistance mission that the European Union has in Rafah and the establishment of new collaboration projects with the Palestinian Authority in the areas of agriculture, food security, and medical assistance.
Sánchez has also announced an increase in the contribution to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) of an additional ten million euros, as well as an increase in the humanitarian aid budget for Gaza to reach 150 million euros in 2026.
Acknowledges the Suffering of the Jewish People in History
The President of the Government began by acknowledging that the Jewish people "have suffered countless persecutions and injustices throughout history, including the most atrocious of all, the Holocaust," and that they deserve to have their own state and be able to feel safe in it, and he reiterated that, for this reason, the Government of Spain has condemned "from day one" the "terrorist attacks and kidnappings by Hamas."
Spain, he stressed, "will always support Israel's right to exist, to guarantee its security and to prosper," but "with the same conviction" it distinguishes between "protecting your country, protecting your society" and "bombing hospitals and starving innocent boys and girls."
In this sense, he argued that what the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamín Netanyahu, presented in October 2023 as a "military operation in response to the atrocious terrorist attacks by Hamas" has become a "new wave of illegal occupations" and an "unjustifiable attack against the Palestinian civilian population."
Criticizes the Lack of Response from the International Community
An attack, he stressed, that the special rapporteur of the United Nations and the majority of experts already describe as a "genocide."
Pedro Sánchez has pointed out that the international community "is not knowing how to stop this tragedy" and has pointed to a "complicity" with the Netanyahu Government.
Faced with this, he assured that Spain, which "does not have nuclear bombs, nor does it have aircraft carriers or large oil reserves," so it alone cannot stop the Israeli offensive, will not stop trying "because there are causes worth fighting for," even if winning them is not solely in its hands.
