A church full of attendees hosted last night, in La Asomada, the reading of the official proclamation of the San José Obrero festivities. Pedro Hernández Reyes, popularly known as Pedrín, relived in his proclamation his childhood, infancy and youth in this agricultural town of Lanzarote.
The herald was accompanied at the proclamation ceremony by the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, the Councilor for Festivities, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, and the parish priest of Tías, Agustín Lasso.
Pancho Hernández was in charge of presenting the herald, thanking him for his collaboration in the festivities, and highlighting that, although he is the son of La Asomada, he currently resides in San Bartolomé after meeting his wife Lina when he was young, being a native of the town of the 'batateros', they decided to establish their family home there.
Pedro Reyes recalled many anecdotes about the origin of the festivities, some of which caused enormous laughter that echoed between the walls of the church of San José Obrero, a temple that saw the beginning of its construction through the voluntary contribution of the neighbors and their personal efforts.
The herald invited the youth of rural areas in a more special way to get much more involved in the organization of their patron saint festivities because they will be the neighbors of tomorrow who will make it possible for these local and popular festivities to maintain the spirit that originated them as an element of union and fun for the families that inhabit the rural towns of the Island.
