The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Territorial Planning and Territorial Policy led by Jesús Machín, concluded this Thursday the two days of citizen participation aimed at collecting contributions for the elaboration of the progress document of the Special Plan for the Protected Landscape (PEPP) of La Geria. The sessions, held on May 7 and 8 at the Farmer's Monument, had a large attendance and were developed in a climate of constructive dialogue and active listening.

The meeting on Wednesday was aimed at the agricultural and winery sector, and brought together more than fifty professionals from the sector. The second day, held on Thursday, gave voice to residents of the population centers and representatives of recreational activities linked to the protected space, who for the first time have been directly included in the planning process.

The Councilor for Territorial Policy, Jesús Machín, highlighted the importance of this participatory process for the future planning of the territory. “These days have been fundamental so that all the actors who live, work or enjoy the landscape of La Geria can feel represented. We need to build a plan that is born from within, from the reality and diversity of those who are part of this ecosystem,” he said.

Machín remarked that the progress of the Special Plan should be “a living, integrating and consensual document, where all parties have had the opportunity to be heard”. He also stressed that the objective of the PEPP is to achieve a balance between landscape conservation, sustainable economic development and the orderly coexistence of the different uses of the territory.

During both sessions, the plan's drafting team explained the milestones already achieved, the content of the environmental document being processed and the steps to be followed in the coming months. The ideas and concerns collected in these tables will be incorporated into the technical process and will contribute to defining the bases of the progress document that will later be submitted to public display.
