The list of Coalición Canaria to the Cabildo de Lanzarote has been the most voted in these elections. The scrutiny, which was tight until the end between the nationalist party and the PSOE, ended with the narrow victory of Oswaldo Betancort against the current president, the socialist María Dolores Corujo.
98.86% of the votes counted gave the victory to the PSOE by 70 votes. However, the clock passed 3.30 am this Monday, May 29, when Dolores Corujo went out to attend to the dozens of supporters and the press who were waiting to know the results at the party headquarters in Arrecife and reported the final result.
It was the socialist candidate herself, and until now president of the Cabildo, who announced that Oswaldo Betancort's list had finally won the elections. "In the case of the Cabildo de Lanzarote it has been very tight, but I want to express my sincere congratulations to the candidate of Coalición Canaria, Oswaldo Betancort, for having won the elections to the Cabildo de Lanzarote. By a little, but we also send him our congratulations. Now it's time to talk, negotiate and reach agreements," Corujo said during her speech.

During the speech, Corujo began by congratulating the socialist candidates who have led the most voted lists. Among the public, there were well-known faces, such as Isidro Pérez, Alfredo Mendoza, José Juan Cruz and Alfredo Villalba. San Bartolomé and Yaiza were the last municipalities to send the final count.
Socialist municipalities
"We needed the change and that has been given by the PSOE in the municipality of Teguise, in the municipality of Haría. If there is something I am deeply proud of, if the PSOE has been able to reach every corner of Arrecife it has been thanks to Alfredo Mendoza." She also congratulated her colleagues from San Bartolomé and Tías.
Before knowing the final count, the candidate of Coalición Canaria to the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, appeared smiling at the headquarters of the nationalist party, located in Arrecife after midnight. The until now mayor of Teguise was wearing a white jacket in which the word "ilusión" (illusion) could be read in blue letters and below his name.
In the heat of the moment and in the company of other party colleagues he was received with applause. "Thank you all for the work and effort," said a visibly emotional Betancort. At that moment, a supporter asked him: Have you won? and hugged him. Oswaldo replied "yes, don't worry, we are going to govern", he assured. Then the count gave a narrow victory to the Socialist Party.
The Popular Party, third force
The Popular Party also maintains the four councilors it obtained in the 2019 elections and obtains the third place.
In fourth place is Nueva Canarias-Frente Amplio Canarista that manages to break through with two councilors, with the candidacy of Óscar Noda.
While Sí Canarias, which obtained two seats in the previous elections, disappears from the Cabildo.
Vox enters the Cabildo
Vox has managed to enter the Cabildo de Lanzarote with 6.23% of the votes and one seat.
Despite the fact that in the morning there was a brief increase in participation. Lanzarote became the Canary Island that voted the least in these elections. In addition, participation has been lower than in the previous election and has remained below half of the citizens with the right to vote on the island, remaining at 49.75%.
