The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) in the municipality of Teguise has presented a proposal aimed at protecting the natural space of El Jable in Lanzarote, which they classify as the "richest and most extensive space of biodiversity and culture on the island".

Thus, the Canarian councilor Fernando Jiménez explains that currently "El Jable is being threatened by different reasons such as illegal aggregate extractions; illegal landfills; motor tourism activities; bad practices in agriculture; or climate change".

"El Jable is not only a protected natural area, but it is a unique ethnographic and biodiversity environment in the world. We are lucky to have it here, in Lanzarote and, especially, in Teguise, and we must respect it because it has been and is home to many Lanzarote residents and endemic species", says Jiménez, who regrets that "for some time the Lanzarote society has turned its back on this environment considering it desert and lifeless. An erroneous interpretation resulting from a lack of transmission of information and dissemination of its values".

From NC-BC they see "a great agreement for the recovery and protection of El Jable as fundamental, which generates a firm commitment to the care and dissemination of its cultural and ecological values". Among the proposals that will be taken to the next plenary session of Teguise, the creation of an Environmental Brigade through the Employment Plans that will be used in its protection and cleaning stands out; urging the Cabildo of Lanzarote to take the necessary actions in order to protect El Jable, as well as to disseminate its values, history and biodiversity at the island level; and urge the Government of the Canary Islands to stop the illegal jable extractions that are carried out and stop the new licenses.

Finally, the Canarians propose urging the Government of the Canary Islands to "declare El Jable as the first Rural Park of Lanzarote, which would reinforce its protection and conservation as well as promote the harmonious development of local populations and improvements in their living conditions, with new activities outside these conditions not being compatible".
