The young people of NNGG of Lanzarote celebrated this Friday their IV Island Congress "Lanzarote, present and future" making a complete review of the role of young people in today's society and putting on the table their critical vision of the socio-political reality of the island and our country.
The national president of NNGG, Diego Gago, wanted to show his total support to the youth organization of Lanzarote and to the new president, Lara Cabrera, recognizing the important role that young people are playing within the decision-making bodies of the Popular Party of Lanzarote and also in public life because, he said, "you don't always see young people presiding over local committees and holding positions of responsibility in the Senate or as councilors in the town halls", as it happens in Lanzarote.
"It is a magnificent example of what should be the active participation to which we aspire from NNGG, the first youth political organization in our country, because far from the confrontation that some propose, we do politics looking to the future", he defended.
On a national level, Diego Gago, assured that "you can't be giving ideological swings" and stressed that there are parties that "on January 1 say one thing and on December 31 have a completely different position regarding the same issue", as is the case of Ciudadanos in relation to permanent revisable prison.
Regarding pensions, Gago said that "it is legitimate for pensioners to demand a rise in pensions just as we understand that with young people who are now accessing their first job we must fight from the institutions to ensure a greater wage guarantee for them". "What cannot be done is demagoguery on such a sensitive issue as pensions, which the PSOE froze", and insisted that it was with the Popular Party, in 1996, when the pension fund was created and now "thanks to that fund we can face pensions, because when the PSOE governed it left a country bankrupt and there is still much employment to create to guarantee the pensions of the future".
With respect to other issues that affect young people, both Diego Gago and the president of NNGG Canarias, Alejandro Sánchez, stressed that "in the Autonomous Communities where the Popular Party governs, youth unemployment rates have been decreasing considerably in recent years and that is a symptom of the good management of the Popular Party." "Although we are on the right track it is necessary that we continue to demand the improvement of the working conditions of young people", said Sanchez, who encouraged young people to maintain the values and ideas of the Popular Party but also the rebellion "because our main role is to defend the interests of the island".
A challenge that was assumed by the new president of New Generations of Lanzarote, Lara Cabrera, who defended the "leading role and defense of young people that NNGG will assume with respect to governments such as that of Arrecife that is causing so much damage to the city". "The time has come to put an end to the stagnation and mismanagement of the PSOE after 35 years in the capital", he said while claiming the open character of the NNGG project "where all young people who want to get involved in the defense of the present and future of the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa fit".
During the congress, two communications were also presented on young people in politics and Educational Policy, by the councilor of Tinajo, Moreiba Fernández, and the former president of the Association of Students Conejeros, Antonio Maldonado, respectively.
The president of the popular Lanzarote, Astrid Pérez, joined the words of thanks to Juan Rivera for his work at the head of NNGG during the last four years and reiterated the commitment acquired with young people at the time of assuming the presidency of the party. "Young people in the Popular Party are the present and the island project we want would not make any sense without their participation", Pérez defended.
