The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the yellow warning for high temperatures and wind from this Thursday in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Already this Monday, Aemet reported the activation of the orange warning for Wednesday due to heat in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria.
Regarding the yellow warning for heat that will come into effect on Thursday at 09:00, temperatures are expected to reach 36 degrees on the island. For its part, the yellow warning for wind will begin at 18:00, with gusts that can reach 60 kilometers per hour.
This yellow warning will also affect the islands of Fuerteventura, Tenerife, El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma, while it will be orange on the island of Gran Canaria. The orange warning for wind will also be activated on the same island and La Gomera.
Recommendations
Sensitive and vulnerable population:
- Infants and children under 4 years, pregnant women and adults >65 years.
- People with previous respiratory, cardiovascular, kidney, hypertension diseases.
- People with chronic diseases: diabetes mellitus, morbid obesity
- People with certain pharmacological treatments: diuretics, laxatives, neuroleptics, anticholinergics, benzodiazepines.

Probable symptoms:
- Intense thirst, weakness, general malaise, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, headache, muscle cramps, fever or lower than normal temperature, palpitations. And symptoms that indicate severity: fainting, seizures, coma
Recommendations for the general population and especially the sensitive:
- Avoid dehydration: drink water and liquids without waiting to be thirsty. Avoid caffeine, sugary and energy drinks and alcohol
- Eat mainly light meals, such as salads, vegetables and fruits, avoiding fats and abundant meals.
- Take care of fragile and vulnerable people, especially children, pregnant women and the elderly.
Protect yourself from the heat:
- Outdoors: avoid exposure to the sun in the central hours of the day, wearing loose clothing, plan intense physical activity first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon, and consult the weather forecast when going to carry out activities outdoors.
- Reprogram the schedule of outdoor work activities.
Indoors: cool the rooms in the extreme hours of the day, avoid the use of appliances that produce heat in the central hours, cool the body with fresh water. Prioritize staying in interior spaces, in case they are conditioned.
- In general, limit the stay outside and avoid intense or prolonged physical activities outside during the extreme heat episode.
