The Island Directorate of the General State Administration in Lanzarote hosted this Tuesday the official presentation of the 19 new trainee agents of the National Police Corps who will serve on the island for the next 11 months.
These incorporations are in addition to the eleven agents of the National Police who took office on the island this past Tuesday, July 1. With this, there are 30 new incorporations so far this month.
The island director, Pedro Viera, presided over the welcome ceremony, highlighting "the commitment and vocation of public service" of these young police officers, who are now beginning their practical training stage after having passed the theoretical phase at the National Police School of Ávila.
In addition, according to the Island Directorate, another eleven new agents are expected to join the staff in mid-July. This progressive incorporation "represents an important reinforcement of the State Security Forces and Corps on the island."
It should be remembered that last April 40 of the 51 positions of National Police agents that the Ministry of the Interior made available to police officers who were already serving in the country became vacant.
In total, the Canary Islands receives more than 200 trainee agents this year, the highest figure in many years, according to Pedro Viera, thanks to "the sustained policy of the Ministry of the Interior of annually convening public employment offers with the aim of recovering and exceeding the levels of personnel existing in 2017." This measure responds "both to the need for replacement and to the desire to increase and rejuvenate police forces throughout the country."
During his speech, the island director stressed that "these agents not only come to complete their professional training in the different operational units, but also they are going to demonstrate their capacity for service, closeness and commitment to the citizens." He added that "their work will be fundamental to continue consolidating Lanzarote as a safe land, in which residents and visitors can live and enjoy with confidence."
The new police officers will carry out their internships for eleven months in different operational areas of the Arrecife Police Station, which will allow them to apply the acquired knowledge on the ground and become familiar with the police reality of the island.
